DUSEL / Homestake Mine

Lead, South Dakota

The National Science Foundation and the South Dakota Science and Technology Authority are working to convert the former Homestake Gold Mine into a national Deep Underground Science and Engineering Laboratory (DUSEL).  When complete the site will host a variety of experiments at 4,800 and 7,800 feet below the surface.  The site is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and so work must adhere to Federal preservation standards.  We are serving as historical architects to HDR, the lead design firm, to ensure that work to these buildings meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.
